10 Self-Care Reminders for Givers to Prevent Holiday Burnout

Self-care is giving the world the best of you instead of what’s left of you.

Each year, the end of Halloween marks the beginning of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. And each year, the holidays can be as demanding and unpredictable as the previous. For those who are natural givers, this season can be both a source of excitement and exhaustion. Here are 10 essential strategies to keep you balanced and grounded while you tackle your holiday duties.

Opt for Readymade Solutions

Sometimes, spending a few extra bucks on a readymade item is the quickest way to solve a problem. When too much preparation is needed for a meal or gift, opt for this quick and easy solution to relieve stress and procrastination.

Stick to Your Self-Care Routine

The busiest time of the year could also mean the most stressful. That’s why self-care is more important than ever right now! Don’t put your routine self-care activities on the back burner just because there is a lot to do. In fact, keeping up with your morning yoga sessions and evening meditations will help you stay focused and respond to events with calm and clarity.

If you’re short on time, reduce the duration of each activity instead of skipping them altogether. Work in a 20-minute yoga session or a brisk walk, a 15-minute meditation, or even five minutes of conscious breathing. A few short moments of mindfulness are better than none and can do wonders for your immune and digestive systems.

Avoid Overcommitting

With all the festivities happening, it’s easy to want to participate in everything. Set your FOMO aside and give your holiday schedule some breathing room so you have time to, well, breathe.

Boost your nutrition

With an extravagant amount of cookies, pies, and cakes available during the holiday season, this is not the time to neglect your nutritional supplements. Make sure you’re getting sufficient greens, immune boosters, energy boosters, and stress relievers to help balance your body and mind.

Let Go of People-Pleasing

Make the holidays as much about you as they are about others. Allow the act of giving to come from a place of comfort and joy, not from a need to meet expectations.

Delegate or Ask for Help

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to say “no” or ask for help. Communicate openly so others understand what you’re going through and have the opportunity to assist.

Stay Out of the Drama

Practice boundaries when it comes to participating in holiday drama. Remember, everyone else’s drama isn’t yours to bear. Your ability to remain calm and centered can even help diffuse heightened emotions among family and loved ones.

Embrace Imperfection

Some things may inevitably not come together as planned. The store may run out of stock on something you needed, or Amazon may ship the wrong item. Be prepared to improvise and remember that not everything has to be perfect—and that’s okay.

Avoid Procrastination

Be patient and steady when tackling your long holiday to-do list. Prioritize tasks and give yourself plenty of time to complete them. Avoid getting distracted by sales or last-minute deals that might delay your plans. On the flip side, give yourself time to recover after the festivities so you can return to your daily routine refreshed.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

The season of joy often comes with its share of pressure and expectations. It’s easy to get caught up in little things like hurtful comments or misunderstandings with family and friends. Don’t let these moments rob you of your inner peace and joy. Pause, tune in to your higher self, and choose to see the bigger picture.
