How Does Vibroacoustic Technology Enhance Your Meditation Experience: An Interview with Craig Goldberg
“The way we respond to our stress triggers changes in 3 seconds, in 3 days, and in 3 years. How we would respond to the same exact trigger 3 years ago isn’t the same how we would respond to it now. My goal is to have that 3-year response take place in 3 seconds. And that’s what meditation essentially cultivates for us – the space to process a healthy response.” — Craig Goldberg
Being an avid meditator and certified meditation teacher, I meet many people on my path who are aware of the benefits of meditation but say they either don’t have the time or they “can’t” meditate. That is why I was delighted to sit down with Craig Goldberg of inHarmony Interactive to explore his vast knowledge behind sound healing and how their Vibroacoustic products provide an instant deep dive into a meditative state for beginner meditators, as well as an immersive three-dimensional experience for advanced meditators.
Craig is a speaker, entrepreneur, and certified Vibroacoustic Therapy Practitioner, who lives a holistic and love-filled lifestyle. Together with long-time friend Dominic Carnevale, they co-founded inHarmony Interactive in November of 2016, with a mission to build a beautiful community of like-minded, exceptional human beings, on a quest for optimal human performance.
Q:
What is Vibroacoustic Therapy?
A:
So let’s break down the word Vibro-Acoustic, Vibro as in Vibration and Acoustic being Sound. Originally coined by Olav Skille, whom I consider the Godfather of Vibroacoustic Therapy. Back in the late 1970s, he started to notice the correlation of certain frequencies and how they impact our mental, emotional, physiological, and even spiritual state. That’s when the formal study of Vibroacoustic Therapy began.
His research was specific to the frequency range of 30Hz–120Hz. To put that into everyday context: a typical subwoofer for a home entertainment system is at about 80Hz. Above 100-120Hz is when it becomes a Listen and not a Feel.
The magic of Vibroacoustic Therapy, in my opinion, is in the overlap of what your body feels and what your ears hear, which, keep in mind, are all translated by our brain as electric signals. And that is the magic of sound healing in general. So when you are sitting on our Meditation Cushion or laying on our Sound Lounge, your body is feeling the same frequencies that your brain is hearing, and that creates full body vibration, therefore full body healing.
In order to have the full body healing effect, your entire body needs to be comfortably rested on the same vibratory surface. For example, if you are laying on the Sound Lounge but your elbow is rested on the wall or a side table, then you’d be grounded on a different surface that’s not on the same vibratory frequency; if our Meditation Cushion didn’t have the foot well and you had to rest your feet on the ground then your entire body would not be on the same vibratory surface, therefore will not have the same impact on our physiology and on our brain. That’s why it is so important for us to design our products to provide that full body experience.
Q:
How do different energetic frequencies affect the human body?
A:
Frequency and vibration is everything. Our body is made mostly of water. Vibroacoustic Therapy brings the water in our body to a harmonic resonance. There are harmful frequencies and there are healthy frequencies. There are not really specificities around that, just generalities. We are all familiar with Solfeggio frequencies, and the healing benefits of 528Hz. We chose 10 Solfeggio frequencies (174, 285, 396, 417, 432, 528, 639, 741, 852 and 963) to start out in our tech and in our app because of their broad applications. And you can’t go wrong with any of those.
Different Solfeggio frequencies definitely have different impacts on our body. Certain frequencies correlate to different meridians of the body and different chakras or energetic centers of the body. There are specific tracks that help release anger, pain, etc.
When you look at Vibroacoustic practitioners, however, they are purists and they have specific protocols to support different conditions of the body, using 30Hz, 40Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz frequencies, customized to each of their clients. Some of them blended into music their client recognizes and some blended into music they do not recognize, by design.
Every day, we are exposed to harmful frequencies such as cell signals, Wi-Fi, or other people’s energy. Even just the electricity in the U.S. has a 60Hz hum associated. An example would be that humming sound made by a refrigerator, that could disharmonize the human body. So getting on the Sound Lounge or a similar vibroacoustic device, or getting out in nature will help reharmonize the body. Most natural environments like ocean, forests and waterfalls will have a 10Hz frequency, which is the alpha brain wave state.
I just wanted that feeling on tap. I didn’t want to have to buy an acoustic instrument and learn how to play it; I didn’t want to hit a tuning fork or a crystal bowl in order to experience sound healing. Ultimately, it was my own inability to achieve a deep meditative state (or any meditative state, for that matter) that drew me into this journey and bred our patented Meditation Cushion.
Q:
What made you begin your journey as a meditator and sound healer?
A:
About 10 years ago, my wife got sick and we started seeking treatment for her. Countless doctor visits, test after test, and we still couldn’t figure out what was wrong. This led me on a quest to seek holistic treatments and wellness knowledge, including a deep dive into our body-mind-spirit connection, which led to mindfulness and meditation.
But I was a terrible meditator, and always looking for ways to hack meditation so I can get there faster. At around the same time, we were traveling the festival circuit, vending my wife’s jewelry and essential oils. We sought out sound healers and sound baths everywhere we went, and found solace in those powerful experiences. Then in November of 2016, I had my first Sound Lounge experience and it forever changed my life.

Q:
How does inHarmony Vibroacoustic technology help people achieve a deeper meditative state?
A:
In short, we provide a range of tech-assisted meditation products to help people instantly get into Alpha, Theta, even Delta brain waves. Even for advanced meditators, there are days where we just need a little help calming our body and mind to get into a deeply relaxed state. Sometimes even just a few minutes on one of our devices helps us get into that state and get us through the day.
I realized back then I was using the wrong technology — I was just playing sounds or music through speakers. It was my now business partner Dominic Carnevale who showed me I really needed tactile transducers. A tactile transducer provides a direct transference of vibration, not a projection through the air onto your body. So the efficiency and efficacy is exponentially greater than that of a speaker. It wasn’t until I had my own Sound Lounge experience that made me want to get involved in this technology and want to teach people about it. All of our products now have these tactile transducers inside. The Meditation Cushion has 1 underneath the users root, 4 inside our Sound Lounge, and 2 inside the Practitioner, to give you that powerful energetic transference.
Q:
In what ways do inHarmony products support personal transformation?
A:
Mindfulness and personal transformation comes down to intention. No one can do it for you. But you can leverage inHarmony products to help you get to the next level. Because our brain doesn’t know the difference between this reality, a dream, or the reality created by our visualizations. So using our technology to visualize a new reality you would like to live in is a powerful tool for personal transformation.
Setting intentions prior to each inHarmony session and having focused thought on intended outcomes is at the core of using our technology for personal transformation. Personally, since my very first Sound Lounge experience (coming up on 6 years ago), the transformation I’ve experienced has been profound. This technology has made a difference on my nervous system, my mental capacity and my cognitive ability. It has impacted my outlook on life, how I show up on a daily basis, as a husband, as a father, as a leader, as a teacher and as a student. Whether I use it to recover from a workout, relax after a hard day, or heal from a traumatic event, this technology has had a profound experience in just how I show up in life as a better human every single day.
My wife and I have been together for 14 years. People are always complimenting the balance that we have, and the love we have for one another. While that’s the foundation we have in everything that we do, there are times when things get tough or when one of us will have a reaction to something or to each other. Having access to this technology as a cool-off point has been a big help. Even my 2-year-old daughter knows how to turn on the Sound Lounge and lay on it to experience the tech on her own. It’s really, really cute.
Q:
Are there any exciting new plans for inHarmony in the near future?
A:
We had just put together our first ever online live-guided meditation and we are going to make it a regular thing. We’d love for everyone to join! Anthony Weiss, our Director of Harmonics, who is responsible for most of the tracks in the inHarmony Music Meditations app puts together amazing meditation music for these live sessions to give you a taste of the inHarmony 3D meditation experience. So to those who are reading this article, look out for our announcement on the next live meditation event, we hope to see you all there!
Other than that, we are always working to improve the quality and designs of our products. There are several exciting new projects we are working on which I can’t share with you just yet. But stay tuned, they are coming!
